Rediscovering Bangkok: My Stay at Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit in Post-Pandemic Thailand

After nearly two years of pandemic-induced hibernation, I finally hit the refresh button on life in early 2022 with a return to Thailand. My choice of base in Bangkok? The Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit, a mid-tier hotel in a busy city center.

I didn’t want to spend much money during this stay, since I needed to budget for two months of stay in Thailand. Nestled in the heart of the city, this hotel proved to be more than just a comfortable place to rest—it became my gateway to rediscovering Bangkok's vibrant spirit.

Strategic Location: Your Key to the City

The hotel's location is truly exceptional. Situated merely 20 meters from BTS Ploenchit skytrain station, you're perfectly positioned to explore Bangkok's myriad of attractions. Transportation options abound: step outside the lobby to hail a motorcycle taxi, traditional taxi, or the iconic tuk-tuk. For tech-savvy travelers, the Grab and Bolt apps provides a convenient modern alternative.

From here, Bangkok's treasures are within easy reach. The chaotic energy of Chatuchak Weekend Market and the serene paths of Lumpini Park are just short rides away.

Historical landmarks like Wat Pho, home to the magnificent reclining Buddha, is easily accessible via MRT subway. Take the MRT Blue Line to Sanam Chai Station and use exit number 1. From there, it’s a 5 minute walk to the temple.

Across the river, the trendy Asiatique night market beckons with shopping and riverside dining—perfect for watching boats glide by as you enjoy an evening drink.

A Neighborhood of Possibilities

The immediate vicinity offers its own attractions. Central Embassy, a premium shopping destination, is within walking distance. This architectural marvel houses everything from luxury boutiques to trendy local brands, creating an elegant maze of retail therapy. The streets surrounding the hotel pulse with vendors serving authentic Thai street food—a sensory adventure of aromas and flavors that shouldn't be missed.

For culture enthusiasts, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) showcases Thailand's contemporary creative scene. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00 with free admission, this artistic hub near BTS National Stadium station features rotating exhibitions, musical performances, and film screenings that capture Bangkok's modern cultural evolution.

Your Urban Oasis

Returning to Novotel after a day of exploration feels like coming home. The contemporary rooms provide a peaceful retreat from the city's energetic pace. The rooftop pool deserves special mention—it's not just a place to cool off, but a vantage point offering Instagram-worthy views of Bangkok's impressive skyline.

Final Thoughts

For travelers seeking to experience Bangkok's renaissance, Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit offers an ideal combination of comfort and convenience at a reasonable price point. Its central location, accessibility to attractions, and excellent transport links make it perfect for both first-time visitors and returning travelers like me. Here, you can immerse yourself in Bangkok's unique charm while maintaining a comfortable home base.

Whether you're chasing cultural experiences, culinary adventures, or simply wanting to rediscover Thailand's capital, this hotel provides the perfect launching pad for your Bangkok journey. As the city sprung back to life, it was a perfect time for me to experience the Land of Smiles post-lockdowns.

Let the revenge-travel momentum continue.
