Wat Pathum Wanaram: A Hidden Temple Oasis Near Siam Paragon Bangkok

Hey there, fellow travelers! Monchai here again.

Looking for peaceful temples in Bangkok near Siam Paragon? Just steps from Bangkok's premier shopping district, 19th-century temple sanctuary Wat Pathum Wanaram Rachaworawihan offers a serene escape from the city's rush. During my 2022 family visit, I discovered this hidden Buddhist temple that many tourists miss while shopping at Bangkok’s Siam district.

How to Get to Wat Pathum Wanaram

The temple is easily accessible from Siam Paragon's Ground Floor. Just exit from Siam Paragon toward Rama I Road. With the Siam BTS Skytrain platform in view, turn left and walk about 150 meters toward Central World. The temple entrance is clearly visible from the main road.

History of Wat Pathum Wanaram

Built in 1857 during King Rama IV's reign, Wat Pathum Wanaram Rachaworawihan (วัดปทุมวนารามราชวรวิหาร in Thai) served as a royal temple for palace residents. This third-class royal temple showcases classic Bangkok temple architecture, combining traditional Thai design with contemporary elements.

Top 3 Attractions at Wat Pathum Wanaram

  1. Main Ubosot (Buddhist Ordination Hall): The temple's centerpiece houses a significant Buddha statue. The hall's detailed Thai temple architecture and peaceful atmosphere make it perfect for meditation.

  2. Lotus Pond at Wat Pathum: The temple's name "Pathum" means lotus, and the pond showcases these sacred flowers. Visit early morning to see lotus blooms at their best – perfect for Bangkok temple photography.

  3. Temple Museum and Art Gallery: Explore Thai Buddhist culture through ancient artifacts and contemporary Thai religious art displays.

Tips for Visiting Bangkok Temples

  1. Wear comfortable, slip-on shoes as you'll need to remove them before entering temple buildings.

  2. As with all temples in Thailand, it's important to dress respectfully. Ensure your shoulders and knees are covered.

  3. Photography is allowed in most areas, but be respectful during religious ceremonies.

  4. To fully enjoy the tranquility, try to visit early in the morning before the city fully wakes up.

  5. Consider combining your visit with Siam Paragon shopping or other nearby Bangkok attractions.
